Cabotegravir and Rilpivirine Injections
Cabotegravir and rilpivirine injections are used in combination for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) infection in certain adults. Cabotegravir is in a class of medications called HIV integrase inhibitors. Rilpivirine is in a class of medications called non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs). These medications work by decreasing the amount of HIV in the blood. Although cabotegravir and rilpivirine do not cure HIV, they may decrease your chance of developing acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and HIV-related illnesses such as serious infections or cancer. Receiving these medications along with practicing safer sex and making other life-style changes may decrease the risk of transmitting (spreading) the HIV virus to other people.
