CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY: Chlrohexidine provides antibacterial properties. It has shown a reduction in certain bacteria ranging from 54-07%. The use of chlrohexidine does not result in any significant changes to bacterial enzymes overgrowth or microbial system. Pharmacokinetics: Chlrohexidine is absorbed from the intestinal tract but its effect on periodontitis has not been determined. It can cause staining of surfaces and tongue and may increase supragingival calculi. It should be used with caution when prescribing. Indication: Chlrohexidine is indicated for the treatment of gingivitis and pericoronitis. Precautions: It should be used with caution for pregnant and nursing women. The drug can cause staining of surfaces and tongue. It may not be suitable for patients having calculus and patients who accumulate plaque.
