HURRICAINE® is a topical anesthetic gel containing 20% benzocaine. It is used for temporary relief of minor irritation and pain associated with canker sores, sore mouth and throat, minor injury of mouth and gums, minor dental procedures, demtures, and orthodontic appliances. The drug warns against methemoglobinemia and is not to be used if there is a history of allergy to anesthetics such as procaine, butacaine, benzocaine, or other "caine" anesthetics. It is not to be used for children under two years of age and should be supervised for use in children under 12 years of age. The gel should not be ingested and must be kept out of reach of children. The drug should not be used if the sore throat is severe or lasts for more than two days and is accompanied or followed by fever, headache, rash, swelling, nausea, or vomiting. If soreness or symptoms do not improve in seven days, or pain and redness persist or worsen, see a dentist or doctor promptly.*
