Docosanol Cream is a non-prescription medication that helps in treating cold sores. It contains 10% docosanol that shortens the healing time of cold sores and the duration of symptoms. Docosanol Cream can be used by adults and children above 12 years of age. It should be applied five times a day until the cold sore is healed. Cosmetics like lipstick may be applied over Docosanol Cream, however, use a separate applicator to avoid spreading the infection. The sooner the cream is used at the first sign of a cold sore, the more effective it will be.*
