This is a description of Nystatin Topical Powder, USP for dermatologic use only. Nystatin is an antibiotic that acts on a wide range of fungi and yeasts, such as Candida species. It works by binding to the cells' membranes of the affected species, causing a change in permeability. Nystatin is not absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes. The medication's side effects are infrequent and include rash, itching, and burning sensations. Nystatin is indicated for the treatment of various cutaneous or mucocutaneous fungal infections. It should not be taken orally or systemically. The medication is contraindicated for people with a history of hypersensitivity reactions to the drug. It is administered topically, either once or twice daily, depending on the severity of the infection. Nystatin powder is available in 15.9, 30, or 60-gram squeeze bottles.*
