This is a description of a blood collection and processing unit known as "Fenwal Blood-Pack Units" containing 500 mL of anticoagulant citrate phosphate dextrose adenine solution for single use. The pH of the solution may have been adjusted with sodium hydroxide. The unit comes with Y-sampling site, 16 ga, ultra-thin wall Fenwal HighFlo Needle and a 400 mL transfer pack container with sterilized, non-pyrogenic fluid path. The unit is stored at controlled room temperature and must be protected from freezing and excessive heat. The unit can be kept in an open pouch up to 60 days as long as they are not removed from the pouch, or removed only once for up to 12 hours, and then are returned to the fold pouch. If the units are kept out of the pouch for more than 96 hours, they should be discarded.*
