This is a description for a shampoo containing 10% sodium sulfacetamide. It is intended for topical use only and should not be used for ophthalmic purposes. Each gram of the shampoo contains 100 mg of sodium sulfacetamide along with various other ingredients. The shampoo is indicated for treatment of scaling dermatoses such as seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. It should not be used by individuals with known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients, and it is contraindicated in patients with kidney disease. The shampoo should be shaken well before use and applied to wet hair, massaging it into the scalp before rinsing thoroughly. It is recommended to use the shampoo at least twice a week or as directed by a doctor. Avoid contact with eyes or mucous membranes, and do not use on infants less than 2 months of age. It is important to adhere to state and federal statutes when making prescription substitutions or recommendations using this product. The warnings state that the shampoo is for external use only, should be kept out of reach of children, and should not come into contact with eyes, lips, or mucous membranes.
