The dosage and administration for seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff is two applications each week for two weeks, and afterward, shampoo may be used as frequently as needed. For tinea versicolor, wet skin, apply to the affected area, and leave for ten minutes before washing it off. Repeat this procedure for seven days or as directed by a physician. The recommended dosage is two applications each week for two weeks for seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. For tinea versicolor, the shampoo should be applied to the affected areas daily for seven days. The shampoo is supplied in 6 fluid oz bottles and should be stored at 20°- 25°C. There are no documented reports of serious toxicity in humans resulting from acute ingestion of the shampoo, but ingestion of large amounts could result in potential human toxicity. This is a description for RxOnly Selenium Sulfide 2.25% Shampoo, which is an antiseborrheic and antifungal medication used to treat seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp, dandruff, and tinea versicolor. The shampoo contains selenium sulfide, alpha-tocopheryl acetate, ammonium laurel sulfate, butylated hydroxytoluene, cetyl alcohol, cocamidopropyl betaine, disodium EDTA, D&C yellow #10, FD&C red #40, fragrance, methylparaben, panthenol, propylene glycol, propylparaben, purified water, pyrithionezing, sodium thiosulfate, stearyl alcohol, triacetin, urea, and xanthan gum. The clinical pharmacology of selenium sulfide is that it reduces comeocyte production in the epidermis and follicular epithelium. This medication is contraindicated for individuals with hypersensitivity to any of the listed ingredients. It is not to be used on broken skin or inflamed areas and is only for external use. Pregnant and nursing women should use caution, and effectiveness in children has not been established.*
