Docosanol Cream, 10% is an over-the-counter (OTC) medicine that is FDA-approved to treat cold sores/fever blisters on the face or lips. It shortens the healing time and duration of symptoms, such as tingling, pain, burning, and/or itching. However, it must be applied only to affected areas, and not in or near the eyes or mouth. It also has an allergy alert because it may cause a severe allergic reaction, and thus, users must discontinue use and seek medical help immediately. Docosanol Cream, 10% has active ingredient Docosanol 10% and inactive ingredients benzyl alcohol, light mineral oil, propylene glycol, purified water, sucrose distearate, and sucrose stearate. It is intended for adult and children over 12 years old, and they should wash their hands before and after applying cream, apply to affected areas at the first sign of cold sore/fever blister, rub it gently but completely, and use it five times a day until healed. It should not be used by people who are allergic to any ingredient in the product, and children under 12 years old should ask for a doctor's approval.
