This is a description for Nitroglycerin Ointment, USP used for intra-anal use. The ointment is to be used within 8 weeks of opening and comes with a dosage guide on the carton. It is advised not to discard the carton. Each 375mg dose contains 1.5mg of nitroglycerin. The usual dose is to apply 1 inch of ointment intra-anally every 12 hours for up to three weeks or as instructed by a physician. The active ingredient is nitroglycerin, and the inactive ingredients include propylene glycol, lanolin, sorbitan sesquioleate, paraffin wax, and white petrolatum. The ointment should be stored between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with excursions permitted between 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). The tube should be tightly closed after each use.
