The medication is intended to relieve cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation, as may occur with a cold, and to help loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretions. The medication is alcohol-free and non-drowsy, and it comes in a 4 fl oz (118 mL) bottle. The directions state that adults and children 12 years and over should take 10 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 6 doses in a 24-hour period. Children under 12 years are not to use.
