Adverse Reactions (Adverse Reactions)

Adverse Reactions (Adverse Reactions)
This is a table showing the adverse reactions occurring in 21% of patients treated with oral haloperidol in double-blind, parallel placebo-controlled clinical trials. The table lists the percentage of patients who experienced gastrointestinal disorders such as constipation, dry mouth, and salivary hypersecretion, as well as nervous system disorders including extrapyramidal disorder, hyperkinesia, tremor, hypertonia, dystonia, bradykinesia, and somnolence. The table also notes that the total reporting rate for extrapyramidal disorder includes individual symptoms and events that did not meet the threshold of >1% for inclusion in the table.*

Boxed Warning (Boxed Warning)

Boxed Warning (Boxed Warning)
Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis may be at greater risk of death if treated with antipsychotic drugs, according to a study of 17 placebo-controlled trials. The risk of death in drug-treated patients was 1.6 to 1.7 times the risk of placebo-treated patients, with cardiovascular and infectious causes being most common. While observational studies show that this increased mortality may also apply to conventional antipsychotic drugs, it is unclear whether the increased mortality is caused by the drugs or characteristics of the patients. Haloperidol Injection, USP is not approved for treating these patients.*
