This is a drug information sheet for ORBUGEN, an over-the-counter cough medicine containing dextromethorphan HBr and glyceryl guaiacolate (guaifenesin), used for the temporary relief of cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation as may occur with a cold. It helps loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to make coughs more productive. The product is not to be used if someone is taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or if they are unsure if their prescription drug contains an MAOI. It is also not recommended for individuals under 12 years of age without the guidance of a physician. The active ingredients in Orbugen are the same as Sorbutuss® NR. It is free of sugar, dye, and alcohol. It is available in grape flavor and should not be used more than 6 doses in any 24-hour period.*
