Lidothol is a medication made from lidocaine 4.5% and menthol 5% patch designed not to be used on wounds, damaged, infected skin, genitals, mucous membranes, or the face. The use of excessive doses or short intervals between doses can lead to high plasma levels with serious adverse effects. Excessive dosing can lead to high blood concentrations of Lidothol, which is determined by the rate of systemic absorption and elimination. Longer duration of application, application of more than the recommended number of patches, smaller patients, or impaired elimination may all contribute to increasing the blood concentration of Lidocaine. Patients should be cautious as this medication may cause sedation, making the use of heavy machinery or automobiles dangerous. Patients allergic to para-aminobenzoic acid derivatives (procains, tetracaine, benzocaine, etc.) should use Lidothol with caution. The most common adverse reactions occur at the application site, including dermatitis, itching, or scaling. Methemoglobinemia can occur if Lidothol is administered to at-risk patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia, cardiac or pulmonary compromiss, infants under & months of age, and concurrent exposure to oxidizing agents or their metabolites. The medication is not recommended on non-intact skin or concurrent use with other products containing local anesthetic agents. Lidothol can be supplied in the form of 15 patches, with its storage requirements being at a room temperature of 85°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C).*
