This is a drug facts sheet for a medication containing Bismuth subsalicylate, which is an anti-diarrheal medication used to treat upset stomach due to food poisoning or overindulgence in food or drink. The product may also control diarrhea, but it is not recommended for children and teenagers who have or are recovering from chickenpox or flu-like symptoms. The product contains salicylate and individuals who are allergic should not take the medication. People who have an ulcer or bleeding problems, bloody or black stool, are on a magnesium-restricted or sodium-restricted diet, or taking medication for anticoagulation, diabetes, gout, and arthritis, should consult a doctor before using the product. Users may experience harmless darkening of the stool and/or tongue.
