HEPARIN SODIUM INJECTION, USP is a drug that is administered intravenously or subcutaneously. It is obtained from the intestines of pigs and is available in 5,000 USP units/mL concentration. The drug is provided in 5 single-use vials of 1 mL each, and it should not be used for lock flush. Each mL of the drug contains heparin sodium (5,000 USP units), sodium chloride (7 mg), benzyl alcohol (0.1 mL), and water for injection. The pH of the drug is adjusted using NaOH and/or HCl as necessary. The drug should be stored at 20°-25°C (68"-77°F). It is available only with a prescription and should be kept out of reach of children as this unit dose package is not child-resistant.
