Docosanol Cream is a non-prescription cold sore medicine that can shorten healing time and the duration of symptoms. The cream contains 10% docosanol and helps to ease tingling, pain, itching and burning due to cold sores. The medicine is useful to be used from the very start of a cold sore when there is a tingle, redness, bump or itch for best results. Docosanol Cream can be applied five times a day directly to the cold sore until healed. Cosmetics such as lipstick may be applied over the cream, but using a separate applicator is necessary to avoid spreading the infection. Cold sores/fever blister outbreaks can easily be spread to others, and it is essential to remain cautious.*
