Mucinex DV is an expectorant and cough suppressant that contains 600 mg of guaifenesin and 30 mg of dextromethorphan HBr in extended-release bi-layer tablets designed to control cough, thin and loosen mucus. Users should only take as directed and if experiencing symptoms like persistent coughs, headaches or having trouble breathing should see a doctor. It should not be used by children under 12 years of age. The box indicates a “Tamper Evident” warning to avoid usage if the carton is opened or torn, and purchasers should refrain from using Mucinex DV if they are currently taking a prescription monoamine or oxidase inhibitor or if they have certain medical conditions without consulting their physician.
