The Acidulated Phosphate Fluoride Treatment Gel is a professional use only, stable thixotropic fluoride gel for in-office patient use. It is used to prevent dental decay and comes with a fluoride ion concentration of 1.23%. The gel is available in two percentages - 2.09% Sodium Fluoride and Hydrofluoric Acid. The procedure involves filling two single or one dual tray, one third full with gel, air drying teeth, and inserting trays into the mouth. The patient bites down lightly but firmly for one minute (80% effectiveness) or four minutes (100% effectiveness) before removing trays and expectorating any excess gel. The gel should not be swallowed, and the patient should not eat or drink for at least 30 minutes after treatment.
