This is a description of a drug called cough suppressant which temporarily controls coughing caused by common cold or dust irritation. It also helps to thin bronchial secretions and loosen phlegm. It contains dextromethorphan HBr USP 10 mg as a cough suppressant and guaifenesin USP 100 mg as an expectorant in each 5ml teaspoon. The drug shouldn't be used by individuals currently taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAO), or those who have recently stopped taking MAOI medication, and avoid taking more than 6 doses in any 24-hours period. The drug should be taken by adults and children 12 years and older, whereas children under 12 shouldn't take it. If signs of any serious condition occur such as a cough lasting over seven days, one should consult a doctor. It also contains certain flavors, sodium citrate, and other excipients.*
