Allopurinol and Oxipurinol are chemical compounds that are used for medical purposes. Allopurinol has a complex molecular structure with a pyrazolo-pyrazalo ring system and a dipyrimidinone unit, while oxipurinol is a derivative of allopurinol. Both compounds are used in treating medical conditions such as gout and cancer. They work by inhibiting the production of uric acid which is a waste product of the body's metabolism. Uric acid if not excreted properly could lead to the development of gout and kidney stones. The molecular structures of these compounds are related to purines such as hypoxanthine, xanthine, and uric acid.*
