The active ingredient in each tablet is Bismuth Subsalicylate. It provides temporary but harmless darkening of stool and/or tongue, and can help in soothing the symptoms of nausea, heartburn, upset stomach, diarrhea, and indigestion. However, if symptoms worsen, or diarrhea lasts more than two days or if one experiences ringing in the ears or loss of hearing, it is advised to discontinue usage and consult the doctor. The doctor's consultation is also suggested before use in people with diabetes, arthritis, fever, mucus in the stool, bleeding problems, or taking any anticoagulation medication. A health professional should be consulted before use in pregnant or breastfeeding women. Children under 12 years should also seek medical advice before using it. It is recommended to keep oneself hydrated when experiencing dehydration caused by diarrhea, and an overdose must be avoided.
