Acetaminophen 500 mg is a pain reliever and fever reducer for adults. It helps relieve minor aches and pains due to common cold, headache, backache, minor pain of arthritis, toothache, muscular aches, premenstrual and menstrual cramps. It also temporarily reduces fever. However, it contains acetaminophen which may cause severe skin reactions and liver damage if taken in more than 4,000 mg in 24 hours or combined with other drugs containing acetaminophen or alcoholic drinks. It is important to ask a doctor before use if the person has liver disease, is taking the blood thinning warfarin, is pregnant, or breast-feeding. The recommended dosage is two caplets every six hours while symptoms last, with a maximum of six caplets in 24 hours, and should not be used for more than ten days without doctor's approval. Children under 12 years old should ask a doctor before use. If pain worsens, fever lasts for more than three days, or redness or swelling is present, it could be a sign of a serious condition.
