Equate Docosanol Cream is a non-prescription medicine used for topical treatment of cold sores. It contains 10% docosanol, which helps to reduce cold sore healing time and the duration of symptoms including pain, itching, and burning. It is important to use the cream at the very start of the cold sore outbreak - when the first sign of tingle, redness, bump, or itch is felt. The cream can be applied up to five times a day until the cold sore is healed. Cosmetics such as lipstick may be applied over the cream using a separate applicator to avoid spreading the infection.*
