GARDASIL is a vaccine that helps protect against the human papillomavirus (HPV), specifically types 6, 11, 16, and 18. HPV is a common sexually transmitted infection that can cause cancers and other health problems. The vaccine is administered in 10 single-dose 05-mL syringes and is made from the L1 protein of each type, adsorbed on an aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate adjuvant. The vaccine is prepared from fermentation cultures of a recombinant strain of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae containing the genes of the human papillomavirus L1 protein of each type. The vaccine contains no preservatives or antibiotics.*
