Prevantics is a non-sterile solution used for patient preoperative skin preparation that comes in a Maxi Swabstick premoistened with 5.1 mL of a solution of 3.15% Chlorhexidine gluconate and 70% Isopropyl alcohol. It helps reduce bacteria that potentially can cause skin infection. The treatment area for one maxi swabstick is approximately 7 by 7 inches for dry site or 3 by 7.3 inches for moist site. It should be used with care in premature infants or infants under 2 months of age. Prevantics must not be used with electrocautery procedures and has to be discarded after a single use.
