OXYGEN, COMPRESSED USP, UN 1072 is a dangerous oxidizer that may cause or intensify fire and explode if heated. It contains gas under pressure, so it requires all safety precautions to be read and understood before handling. It should be kept and stored away from clothing and combustible materials in a well-ventilated area. The piping requires a backflow preventive device, and it should only be used with compatible equipment that has been cleaned for oxygen service. The valve must be opened and closed slowly, and the cylinder must be protected from sunlight when the ambient temperature goes above 52 °C (125 °F). For emergency use only, oxygen can be administered for resuscitation, but for all other medical purposes, caution is advised.
