Doxylamine is used to treat insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep).   Doxylamine is in a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms. Doxylamine is also used in combination with acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, decongestants and other medications to manage cold and flu symptoms.
