Mucus Relief DM is a medication that helps loosen phlegm and thin bronchial secretions. It contains the active ingredients Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide USP 30 mg and Guaifenesin USP 600 mg. This medication is used to relieve cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation caused by the common cold or inhaled irritants, and also to help reduce the intensity and impulse of coughing to aid sleep. Warnings advise against use for children under 12 years and also caution with persistent or chronic coughs or certain prescription medications. Directions for use indicate to not use more than directed, and to take with a full glass of water. The medication should not be crushed, chewed, or broken. If cough lasts more than seven days, comes back, or occurs with fever, rash, or persistent headache, it may be a sign of a serious illness, and use of the medication should be stopped. Overdose may occur, and medical help should be sought immediately. The inactive ingredients in this medication include colloidal silicon dioxide, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, and pregelatinized starch.
