It is found to be more effective when applied at the very start of the cold sore, and it should be used five times a day until the cold sore is healed. Docosanol Cream contains 10% docosanol, which is unique to the product. It is recommended to remove any cosmetics before applying Docosanol Cream, and cosmetics such as lipstick may be applied over it using a separate applicator to avoid spreading the infection.*
